State Chair's Recap on Fall Semester

As the first semester of being State Chair comes to an end, I have thoroughly enjoyed the progress we’ve made because of all the enthusiastic students working hard on spreading our message on campus and across the state.  From our successful GOTV effort, to a productive November Delegates, to meeting wonderful students when I visited all of our campuses in September, these past five months have been an incredible time to serve as State Chair of Students United.

The opportunity to be present on all of our campuses this semester gave me a new perspective on the difference between our universities, why students choose to attend them, and the benefits of being a statewide system.  I enjoyed being a part of two Homecoming parades, attending several student organization meetings, tabling at MSU Mankato, and meeting new students during my 3,050 mile journey across Minnesota.  I look forward to visiting all seven campuses again this spring.

The first Delegates Conference I attended was in November 2013.  This past November Delegates Conference had one of the best assemblies I have been a part of throughout the years, with productive discussions and excellent motions passed.  I anticipate the same involvement and enthusiasm during February and April Delegates Conferences.

Additionally, this semester, I have testified at a few Minnesota State Board of Trustee meetings in regards to affordability, access, and equity and inclusion. I have had meetings with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors, attended systemwide council meetings, and had the opportunity to sign onto a joint letter with MSCSA (Minnesota State College Student Association) addressing steps to improve upon equity and inclusion across the Minnesota State system.

I couldn’t have asked for a better semester from the board of directors, staff, campus committees, and all the students involved with Students United! I’m looking forward to another great semester ahead!
