My name is Faiçal Rayani (fesal). I am international student born and raised in Saudi Arabia. My mother is from Syria and father is from Tunisia. I have been in Minnesota for over 3 years and have been an involved student ever since my first year at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I am a Computer Information Technology major and hope to graduate in May of 2018. I also work for a student led creative media solutions company called Bureau 507.
Our goal as an organization is to tackle our various issue campaigns head on. The board and delegates of Students United have collaborated to create an elaborate platform and list of approved issues facing students at MN State four-year students. The 2017-2018 academic year is the year where we begin to mobilize on highly targeted of issues determined in collaboration with the student board of directors. Creating specific and achievable goals for the year will allow us to accomplish them. A couple goals we have include backing up a functional Minnesota textbook affordability bill, and changing all MN State universities to be affirmative consent campuses following in the steps of the U of M. This list of goals will be added to and narrowed down and improved during the board of directors and campus intern retreat.
I am tremendously excited to begin my term as State Chair. Higher education is a noble cause and I will advocate for it with the best of my ability. I want to show legislators that Higher Ed is one of the best investments they can make. Internally, I want to show students that in our unity, there is profound strength. I am also excited to place international students and all underrepresented student populations at the forefront of our conversations.
I am confident we can accomplish our goals with the help of Vice Chair Lexi Byler and Treasurer Ben Uecker. Ben is taking on the task of having a shared financial understanding within Students United. Lexi has demonstrated a commitment to diversity. Together in collaboration with our fantastic new board of directors we will set and accomplish our goals for this upcoming year.
I want to extend a warm welcome to everyone to be involved in this process. It is going to be a great year.
