24th Annual Penny Golf Scramble Success

On behalf of everyone at Students United, thank you to those who braved the rain and supported the Penny Program at our 24th Annual Penny Golf Scramble. The event included a golf scramble, dinner, silent auction, raffle, and a presentation by scholarship and fellowship recipients. With 108 golfers, we raised nearly $10,000 for the Penny Program. This program is Students United’s oldest foundation and provides over $40,000 each year to students throughout the state of Minnesota.

The scramble took place at the Mississippi National Golf Links in Red Wing on the beautiful Highlands course. This breathtaking course offered a challenge and adventure to our golfers. Even with spots of rain throughout the event, everyone was in great spirits. We had many golfers conquer the challenging course. Winners from this tournament in the naturals category were Greg Snider, Jeff Olson, Mark Neville, and John Mozina, and the winners in our penny shots category were Jason Eyberg, Joe Effertz, Dale Buytaert, and Bob Howell.

Additionally, Dotty Farley won the Longest Drive, Longest Putt, and Closest to Pin in the women’s category. Michelle Keller won the Closest Second Shot in the women’s category. Peter Jandric won Longest Drive in the men’s category. Mark Rodde won Closest to Pin in the men’s category. Jason Eyberg won Closest Second Shot in the men’s category. As well as, Travis Reese won the Longest Putt in the men’s category.

We also had the pleasure of hearing from students at the event that were directly impacted by the Penny Program. We had Priyanka Lamichhane from St. Cloud State University, Alison Bettin from Winona State University, and Nelsie Yang from Minnesota State University Mankato. Our speakers shared their personal narrative and how the Penny Program has helped them pursue their education.

We hope everyone enjoyed the 24th Annual Golf Scramble, and we cannot wait to see everyone again at our 50th Anniversary Celebration of Students United on November 17 at the James J. Hill Center.
