written by | Christina DeVries

Hello friends and comrades,

It is with great joy that I get to greet you as the new Students United Director of Development. As an organization rooted in building power with students, it is an honor to work alongside each of you to build the resources needed for us to thrive.

As a Minnesota transplant, I have lived in the Twin Cities for nearly five years. Before joining the Students United team, I worked as a grant writer at the Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis, which a human services nonprofit serving all people in the Western suburbs. In late 2018, I graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Master’s in Advocacy and Political Leadership. After earning a Bachelor’s in Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I spent two years serving with Peace Corps in Namibia as a Community Health HIV/AIDS volunteer.

Personally and professionally, I am committed to organizing resources to build power for social justice movements founded with and for people most affected by the issues. I am deeply committed to anti-racism work, wealth redistribution, lifelong learning and gender justice. In my free time, I paint and create art, volunteer with the Headwaters Foundation for Justice as a donor organizer and love to spend time with my grandparents. I also identify as a strong Minnesota summer enthusiasts.

As I begin this new role, I have been reflecting on the words of one of my favorite authors and activists, Paul Rogat Loeb. In his book, The Soul of a Citizen, he writes,

‘We can’t predict our impact, which is why we should persist...We’re never truly alone when we act with courage and vision. And we never know what we might create if we try. To fail to realize the power of our actions is to reduce the potential of our soul. It’s to diminish the spark that burns within us.’

It is with that spark that I hope to continue to build on the work Students United does daily to be the inclusive voice for all future, current and former students.

I can’t wait to connect and learn together. Please feel free to reach out at
