(Part-Time) Development Director 

Job Title: Development Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Part-Time

Location: Remote (must be located in Minnesota) with periodic travel to the Twin Cities  

Salary and Hours: $22,000–$30,000, 15 Hours weekly
 

Position Summary: 

Students United is seeking a Development Director to join our team! This position oversees the organization’s donor-organizing efforts and leads narrative development, individual fundraising, and fundraising event coordination. This role also is responsible for Students United’s scholarship program, database management, donor reporting, and supporting annual student conferences/events. This is a part-time position with the option to work mostly remote, hybrid, or at our Saint Paul office. Must be located in Minnesota

Key Responsibilities: 

Fundraising & Development Execution 

  • Implement and execute the organization’s fundraising and development plans, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. 

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and other funding sources. 

  • Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, events, and grant applications. 

  • Identify and develop new funding opportunities to diversify revenue streams.

Donor Stewardship & Engagement 

  • Maintain and enhance donor relations, ensuring timely acknowledgments and stewardship activities. 

  • Support donor communication efforts, including appeals, newsletters, and impact reports. 

  • Develop strategies to increase donor retention and engagement.

Data Management & Reporting 

  • Record, track, and analyze donor and fundraising data using donor management systems (e.g., CRM software).  

  • Generate reports on fundraising performance and provide insights to inform strategy. 

  • Ensure compliance with ethical fundraising standards and best practices.

Collaboration & Organizational Support 

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals. 

  • Assist in board engagement and development-related activities. 

  • Assist in supervision of a fellow as part of Students United Student Leadership Program 

  • Provide support in financial planning and budget forecasting related to development efforts.

Scholarships  

  • Coordinate scholarship outreach and distribution of Students United’s 7 scholarships. 

  • Review monthly scholarship fund financials and correct any discrepancies. 

  • Plan and coordinate the Penny Golf Scramble Scholarship Fundraiser

Qualifications: 

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or development. 

  • Proven ability to execute fundraising plans and cultivate donor relationships. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in donor outreach and grant writing. 

  • Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. 

  • Preferred Skills & Experience: 

  • Experience working with student-led or higher education-focused organizations. 

  • Familiarity with corporate sponsorships and foundation grant writing. 

  • Knowledge of nonprofit finance and budgeting related to fundraising.
