Job Title:          Government Relations Intern                                                    Status:     Intern


Reports to:        Director Government Relations   

Position Responsibilities:

The Government Relations Intern will assist the Students United Government Relations team with tasks related to advancing the Students United legislative agenda. This will include higher education policy research and state and federal legislative advocacy efforts. The intern will assist with planning campus legislative events, Students United’s Advocacy Conference and Advocacy Day. The intern will organize meetings between legislators and students, assist with action alert emails and work with Students United coalition partners. The intern will attend legislative committee meetings and, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities meetings. The intern will use social media as appropriate and will provide monthly reports to their supervisor.


Position Duties:

  1. Research policy issues 

  2. Arrange meetings with legislators and staff

  3. Assist with planning DC trip details and coordinate with Congressional offices

  4. Prepare training materials for campus visits

  5. Communicate with students about policy issues and legislative events

  6. Submit monthly reports on all work performed to supervisor

  7. Other duties as assigned


Compensation and Schedule:

  1. $10.50 per hour

  2. 10-15 hours per week

  3. Term: January 7th -May 20, 2019

  4. No Benefits
