Scholarships Are Open For Spring 2024!

Scholarship season is here! This year, Students United offers seven (7) and promotes eight (8) scholarships to support students in the MinnState system.

To help with this application process, all our scholarships include a downloadable application form so you can see the requirements and draft the form before going into the scholarship portal. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on April 1st, except for the Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarship, which is reviewed by The Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarship Program Board and has a deadline of June 1st.

We know applying for scholarships can be overwhelming, so we’ve compiled a list of resources to help you:

  • Scholarship Handout: a guide with background information about the scholarships, FAQs, an overview of the requirements for each scholarship, and contact information for more questions

  • Students United Scholarship Tips & Tricks: advice about what documents to turn in, what our scholarship reviewers are looking for in your applications, tips on writing scholarship essays, and more.

  • Online Tutoring for MinnState Schools: All MinnState schools get at least 15 hours of FREE online tutoring per semester through Tutor.com (you can also contact your school to request additional free hours!). This is a wonderful resource to get feedback on your essays and saves you the hassle of setting up a tutoring session during your school’s tutoring hours.

  • Federal Trade Commission: How to Avoid Scholarship Scams: College students are often targeted for scholarship and financial aid scams. Here’s some advice from the FTC about how to avoid these scams, what to do if you believe you’re involved in a scam, and how to report them. In summary:

    • Scholarships should not cost you money; there should be no processing or entrance fees.

    • Scholarships will not be direct deposited into your bank accounts—they should go through your school’s financial aid office, where they will be applied to your school account. Do not give credit card or bank information to scholarship websites!

    • If they say you are “guaranteed scholarships,” it’s likely a scam.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Community Outreach & Fundraising Coordinator, Kaileigh Weber, at kweber@studentsunited.org. We cannot edit essays or give feedback, but we will gladly answer other questions and give clarification about scholarship requirements.
