Minnesota State Student Trustee

Recommendation Application

Minnesota State Student Trustee

Recommendation Application

Every other year the Students United Board of Directors has the opportunity to recommend to the Minnesota Governor a few candidates for a two-year appointment to the Minnesota State Board of Trustees.

Why should you apply to be recommended as the next Minnesota State student trustee?

This is a wonderful chance for a student to expand on leadership experiences, and significantly contribute to the governance of the entire Minnesota State system.

The Minnesota State Board of Trustees consists of 15 members appointed by the Governor and has responsibility for system planning, academic programs, fiscal management, personnel, admissions requirements, tuition and fees and rules and regulations.

What qualifications do you need?

The current student position, held by Trustee Abdul-Aziz, ends in June 2019.  Student trustee applicants must be enrolled at least half-time in a state university degree, diploma, or certificate program at the time of appointment.

Students United is presently seeking student applicants with integrity, wisdom, independence, and an inquiring mind. In addition, students should have the ability to articulate the student perspective on a wide array of student concerns and a willingness to collaborate and think strategically about higher education issues.

Ideal candidates should have demonstrated student leadership experience on a Minnesota state university campus as well as be in good academic standing. If this is you, please consider submitting your application to be recommended by our Board of Directors to the Office of Governor Walz for consideration.

How do you apply?

Students are asked to fill out this application, and then submit their resume, two letters of recommendation and a transcript (official or unofficial) by email to Kalista Mangahas (kmangahas@studentsunited.org) by 11:59 PM on March 31st, 2019.

The Students United Board of Directors will review all applicants at our April Board Meeting. Top candidates will be interviewed at our May Board Meeting to determine which students to recommend to Governor Walz by mid-May.

If you have questions please contact Tom Anderson, Students United Executive Director at 651-224-1518 or tanderson@studentsunited.org.
