The Executive Director is responsible for all Students United operations, including those that achieve student advocacy results, increase Students United’s visibility, and maintain positive relationships with Minnesota State and other organizations. A Board of Directors made up of college students govern the advocacy, program, and scholarship activities of the organization. The Executive Director serves a resource and strategy partner and, with the staff team, implements the strategic plan and the objectives determined by the Board of Directors.

Advocate on behalf of the students of the seven Minnesota state universities to administer student initiated programs in higher education and in legislative efforts.
Responsible for oversight of office operations.
Maintain Students United’s strategic plan.
Manage employee relations activities including, recruitment, disciplinary action, and terminations. Maintain communication with Board leadership (Officers) regarding these situations.
Hire and supervise the Students United staff, interns, and volunteers; delegate responsibilities appropriately.
Oversee a communication plan between officers, staff, and students.
Oversee development of campaigns.
Remain informed of budget status on a regular basis and facilitate yearly budget proposals with staff and Board leadership (Officers.)
Work closely with Students United Officers and Board of Directors and ensure smooth transition of student leadership yearly.
Maintain favorable relationships with other state student associations, as well as related non-student organizations.
Attend Students United conferences, meetings, and related events.
Other duties as directed by the Students United Officers and/or Board of Directors.
experience and qualification requirements:
Ability and desire to travel in Minnesota to university campuses.
Willingness to work weekends, minimum one weekend a month.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Exceptional problem solving, facilitation, and organizational skills.
Comfort with public speaking.

- Knowledge of higher education issues, political & lobby processes, and the Minnesota State system.
