System Priorities Advisory Committee

We're seeking 11 engaged student leaders for our System Policy Advocate Team!

System Policy Advocates will serve on our internal System Priorities Advisory Committee, and represent Students United on select MinnState System Councils and Committees

Deadline: Friday, August 15, 2025

Compensation: $525 stipend, distributed over 2 payments, one per semester. 

Time Commitment & Term Length: This position is from September 2025 – June 2026

  • The approximate total time commitment is 32 hours per school year: 

    • 20 hours reserved for MinnState Council/Committee work 

    • 12 hours reserved for System Priorities Advocacy Committee work
       

Duties and Responsibilities:

Students United System Priorities Advisory Committee

  • Attend and participate in scheduled committee meetings. System Policy Advocacy Committee (SPAC) meets 1-2 times per semester for 1-2 hours per meeting. 

  • Review and discuss policy and initiative changes at the campus and MinnState System level. 

  • Provide input and recommendation on Students United's system advocacy priorities. 
     

MinnState System Council and Committees: 

  • Attend a participate in scheduled council/committee meetings. This includes four meetings per year, each meeting being 3-4 hours long. 

  • Consult with and represent the voice of students on agenda items. 

  • Provide recommendations to the council/committee on student needs. 

  • Complete and submit reports to Students United after each council/committee meeting.

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Enrolled student at one of the 7 Minnesota State Universities:

    • Bemidji State University

    • Minnesota State University - Mankato 

    • Metro State University

    • Minnesota State University - Moorhead 

    • St. Cloud State University 

    • Southwest Minnesota State University 

    • Winona State University 

  • This role is open to all students, both domestic and international, and is considered an on-campus position. All meetings will be held virtually. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to meet and maintain deadlines

  • Alignment with Students United's mission, vision, and values

  • Interest in representing and amplifying the voice of students at decision making tables. ​

Committee and Council Appointments: 
 

Academic Affairs Council (2 seats):

  • The council will be the principal group responsible for advising the senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs on academic initiatives and programs that are planned, piloted, adopted, and/or implemented for systemwide benefit. A few areas of focus include: 

    • Undergraduate/graduate teaching and learning, professional development, student readiness, and college transitions, career and technical education, career preparation, and workforce development, program alignment and effectiveness, and inter-campus collaboration. ​

Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Council (2 seats): 

  • The Minnesota State Academic Affairs Council will be the principal group responsible for advising the senior vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs on student affairs issues, initiatives and programs that are planned, piloted, adopted, and/or implemented for system-wide benefit.

Technology Council (2 seats): 

  • The Academic and Student Affairs Technology Council is the principal group responsible for advising the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs on all academic technologies that are piloted, adopted, and/or licensed for systemwide use. Including instructional related tools, online learning technologies, instructional media delivery, library technologies, and other instructional academic technologies. â€‹

 

 Policy Council (2 seats): 

  • ​The Academic and Student Affairs Policy Council provides constituent advice and consultation on proposed Board of Trustees academic and student affairs policies and chancellor's procedures. The work and focus of the council support the strategic direction of: 

    • Increasing access and opportunity, promising high-quality learning programs and services, and providing programs and services that meet state and regional economic needs. ​
       

Equity and Inclusion Council (1 seat): â€‹

  • The Minnesota State Equity & Inclusion Council is the principal group responsible for advising the Chief Diversity Officer on strategies, initiatives, programs, and policies that are planned, piloted, adopted, and/or implemented for system-wide benefit and related to matters of equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Basic Needs and Mental Health Committee (2 seats): 

  • The Basic Needs and Mental Health Committee is recently reformatted and will provide advice and consultation on strategies, programs, initiatives, and policies related to basic needs or mental health services.
