Mirza (he/him) is a student at St. Cloud State University, and is applying for the position of State Chair.
The responses to the application questions are unedited and are written by the candidate. Why are you interested in this specific officer position?
Being associated with the organization for a time now, it is time for me to step up and be the face of organization, I have previously served my role as a community leader fellow and currently serve as a treasurer/secretary before I graduate I would want to serve Minnesota State Students by having a more robust role in higher education advocacy. I believe I have climbed my way up to this position by being patient and equipped with right skills set to serve on this position. The reason I am running for this position and not any is this position can bring me a-lot of exposure which can influence my personal and professional growth to be more vocal and handy to play a part in higher education.
Please describe your understanding of Students United Student's United is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which is governed by Board of Directors. Board has seven voting members and they all are student body presidents for their respective State University. Student's United is led by Minnesota State University students to create and advocate for an ideal model of higher education at the state, system and the federal level. The work done is made possible by the efforts of Board of Directors, Staff Members and Community Leader Fellows.
Please describe your understanding of the role officers play at Students United I expect this role is going to be a bit demanding and more organization oriented; to be a middleman between the Board of Directors and Executive Director, this role demands basic administrative, communicative and public speaking skills as well as basic understanding of systematic procedure of State universities, policies, political situation at the local, and state level. Knowledge of inner workings of how a student is ensured success at the state university which includes various topics like, FAFSA, Pell Grants, TRIO, SNAP Benefits etc.
What goals do you have for this position and/or for Students United?
My biggest goal is to ensure smoothest communication between Board of Directors and Executive Director, while already being an officer I look forward to a facilitate the transition of the new Board of Directors with necessary needs and demands if I get elected for the new role. Taking on unique initiatives that we all face at our 7 campuses, represent 65 thousand students at Board of trustees meeting, campus visits and Student's United events.
Is there anything else you would like the Board of Directors and the public to know? As per my current and previous experience with the organization I have seen been on the both sides of the Org, worked with the full time staff members and as well as Board of Directors. knowing so has made me believe in myself that this role is pivotal to ensure Student's United success at levels one can only imagine.
