Tell us more about yourself “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” This bible verse from Philippians 3:14 has grounded me through challenges and continues to shape the way I serve my community and pursue my goals.

My name is Javelia Morrison-Galimore (she/her), and I am a sophomore at St. Cloud State University, majoring in Computer Science and Cybersecurity with minors in Honors and Political Science. Growing up in the island paradise of Jamaica, I rarely saw women in technology. I’m determined to break that mold. I enjoy programming, its logic and creative aspects, which inspired me to launch a web and graphic design business. There, I provided local clients with services they once outsourced to providers abroad. Now, I aspire to become a Cybersecurity Policy Analyst and, ultimately, a Cyber Diplomacy Officer, using technology to defend and connect communities worldwide.

Outside of academics, I love to experiment with cooking, and many would say I’m a great cook! One of my favorite dishes to prepare is Jamaican jerk chicken with festival "golden fried dumpling", steamed vegetables, rice, and peas. I feel like it keeps me connected to my culture. I also enjoy painting landscapes, which I find to be a therapeutic way for me to unwind and recharge my social battery.

Since 2017, I’ve been collecting currencies from around the world, now spanning more than 20 countries, each telling a story of history and identity. I particularly value the Jamaican dollar, which honors my nation’s heroes and independence, and the British pound for its timeless elegance. I hope to add the Swiss Franc, Maldivian Rufiyaa, and Icelandic Króna in the future.

Why did you want to serve as Vice Chair?

Altruism and advocacy have always been my second nature, the hallmark of my authenticity and how I engage with the world. Raised in a God-fearing home, I was taught to use my voice to uplift others and serve selflessly, while prioritizing relationships over personal gain. These are all values at the heart of Students United’s work.

Recognizing my strengths in bridging knowledge and resource gaps, as well as uniting and mobilizing people around a shared goal, I knew I would be an excellent fit for the role of Vice Chair.

Having served in numerous leadership capacities at St. Cloud State, stepping into the Vice Chair position a natural extension of my leadership journey. Witnessing how Students United translates student voices into policy change at the system, state, and federal levels, I wanted to be part of that work and contribute to expanding the reach of our impact.

I have consistently dedicated my time and expertise to initiatives that advance the well-being and success of all students. Being the 2025-2026 Vice Chair, I am committed to elevating the work of Students United by strengthening student engagement, supporting advocacy efforts, and fighting for the needs of Minnesota State University students.
