Recent xenophobic language and federal immigration enforcement actions targeting the Somali community in Minnesota are causing fear and anxiety for many within our communities. As the statewide student organizations for the 33 Colleges and Universities in the Minnesota State System, LeadMN and Students United recognize that our Somali students are experiencing that same unease and uncertainty.

On March 28, 40 days ago, Mohammed Hoque, a student at Minnesota State University – Mankato was taken into ICE custody. We’re celebrating his long-awaited reunion with his family and friends. Upon release, Mohammed will now be able to attend his sibling's graduation, address ongoing medical needs, and continue his studies.
