Yesterday evening, Mohammed Hoque was released from ICE custody on bond.
On March 28, 40 days ago, Mohammed Hoque, a student at Minnesota State University – Mankato was taken into ICE custody. We’re celebrating his long-awaited reunion with his family and friends. Upon release, Mohammed will now be able to attend his sibling's graduation, address ongoing medical needs, and continue his studies.
We’re grateful to U.S. District Judge Jerry Blackwell, ACLU of Minnesota, and the countless legal experts that provided their services for Mohammed and his family.
In addition, we’re proud of the staff and students at Minnesota State University – Mankato. Both in and out of Mankato’s Student Government, our students have been resolute in their efforts to raise awareness, ask more of the Minnesota State Systems Office in support of students, and find new ways to support their international peers. We're thankful for the tireless work of the administration at Minnesota State University – Mankato, and the International Student Support Services.
We are stronger together, and we’re thankful to be part of this work with you all.
This is not the end of Mohammed’s legal battle, and we ask that our Minnesota State University students continue to support Mohammed and their international peers. Students United will continue to support Mohammed as he navigates his next steps as a student at Minnesota State University – Mankato.
We recognize that there are students and members of the Students United community still in detainment. Rights to due process and free speech are cornerstones of our democracy. Students United will continue to advocate for our students and ensure they are afforded all the rights and liberties granted to them by the Constitution.
